Our mission is to empower students in our care through practical solutions -- to be physically well, spiritually alive, emotionally balanced, mentally sound and socially adjusted so that they can function as productive citizens in society.
These are accomplished by:
- Counseling – resolving past issues
- Mentoring – applying biblical principles to every aspect of life
- Teaching – learning new ways to deal with life issues
- Training – job-readiness and vocational skills
- Structure – learning good disciplines through work, recreation, and rest
- Love and acceptance – life-learning in a family atmosphere

Board Chair: John Bailey
The name Teen Challenge originated in 1958 when Rev. David Wilkerson, author of the Cross & the Switchblade traveled to New York City to reach teenage gang members with God’s love. Teen Challenge was born from this visit in the city slums. Today, there are over 1100 centers across the globe operating in over 93 countries. Teen Challenge has been facilitating life-transformation in Jamaica since 1997. While on vacation in Montego Bay, our founder, Rev. John Steigerwald saw a young woman lying naked and unconscious in the gutters in Sam Sharpe Square. He called the police, but they had no where to take her to get help. This birthed a desire in his heart to start a Teen Challenge in Jamaica.
As a result of this act of obedience to the voice of God, Teen Challenge Jamaica was born. Since opening its doors, hundreds of lives have found permanent freedom from drug and alcohol addictions in Jamaica through the ministry of Teen Challenge here.
